Contrasting with the world’s goal of strengthening the body’s immune system, the Course’s emphasis is on strengthening the mind’s immune system. Developing our awareness that there are two ways of looking at our world is the aspect of the process of mind training that is emphasized in this program. With the help of Jesus’ teachings, we become aware that what makes us sick is not disease or germs. What causes sickness, what causes conflict, what causes pain of all kinds, is our belief in guilt—and we are reminded that guilt resides in the mind and not in anything external. The Course’s term for this shift in focus is forgiveness or the miracle. We are gently led to learn a thought system from a new Teacher who will help us see that we are better off choosing Atonement than separation, a miracle instead of a grievance, forgiveness instead of hatred and judgment. Opening our mind to these realizations is the means and practice the Course offers us for strengthening the mind’s immune system.

You will identify with what you think will make you safe. Whatever it may be, you will believe that it is one with you. Your safety lies in truth, and not in lies. Love is your safety. Fear does not exist. Identify with love, and you are safe. Identify with love, and you are home. Identify with love and find your Self.
