The study and practice of A Course in Miracles can often seem to involve a great amount of pain, anguish, turmoil, and terror, even as it assures us—guarantees in fact—that the outcome of our efforts will be perfect and lasting peace. The intense discomfort that inevitably arises tempts students to minimize or deny the effects of the comforting passages, resulting in feelings of discouragement, or to do the opposite and minimize or ignore the disturbing teachings, holding in awareness only the inspirational, uplifting ones. This class explores this aspect of our spiritual journey in the context of the “gentler pathways and smoother roads” Jesus speaks of in Lesson 123, with emphasis on the importance of the distinction between form and content in processing the Course’s reassuring “pep talks.”
