Note: This program includes a specific focus on the coronavirus pandemic in relationship to the theme of time, in light of the current situation world-wide.
In our lives, we may feel we do not have enough time to do all we want and need to do, or we may feel we have too much of it on our hands and are at a loss as to how to fill our time. Many of us also have the fear that eventually time will take away all that we have lived for, cared for and valued. Over time, we lose loved ones, our vitality and health, our memory and eventually our life. Gratefully, however, Jesus in A Course in Miracles offers us a different perspective on time: “for time is cruel in the ego’s hands, as it is kind when used for gentleness”(T-17.III.4:2). Rather than experiencing time as the futile trap the ego has intended it to be–where the guilty past is used to determine a fearful future and overlook the present–time can serve a different purpose. When given to the Holy Spirit, time becomes a means for releasing our mind from its limitations, through the experience of the present–in the holy instant outside of time– in the timeless world of the mind. The Holy Spirit helps us to recognize that the present is the only time in which the peace we truly seek can be experienced. But that shift in time’s purpose from trap to release is only possible if we don’t insist that we already know what time is for. This program will explore, through readings and discussion, the theme of time and its practical application in our lives.
