Dr. Jeffrey Seibert
If we are honest with ourselves, we would admit that we believe our happiness is affected by change. We seek changes that we consider good, involving gain to us, avoid changes that we consider bad, involving loss to us, and are ambivalent about changes that seem to involve both. And whether we see change as good or bad can change, with changing circumstances. We often have little control over change, leaving our happiness very much in the balance. To this hopeless situation, A Course in Miracles offers a way out – a different perspective on change: “Change is the only thing that can be made a blessing here, where purpose is not fixed, however changeless it appears to be” (T-29.VI.3:3). A change in our mind’s purpose becomes our focus now, instead of change at the level of form and the body, which is really no change at all, as we begin to uncover the ego’s hidden meaning and purpose for all the changes in our lives. This program will explore, through readings and discussion, just what it means to change our purpose – the only change that matters – reflected in changing our teacher from the ego to the Holy Spirit or Jesus, and why we have so much resistance to this change.
